While I had one baby on me and others in the cradle, I would work 12 hour shifts sanding flooring and tearing off wallpaper. Ha! All was starting to come together but we weren't anywhere near finished. It would take lots of time and a love for shopping. In order to stay within budget, I began going with my boys to estate sales in search of diamonds. We had a weekly schedule that consisted of spending the week of Thursday to Saturday scouring estate sales and garage sales buying old and new items. I then spent the remainder of the week sanding and painting the driveway. My first impression was like... that's the moment my love for restoring furniture started. When our house was furnished, I still couldn't quit! There was an area on the market in town where I would sell my items. Then I bought more that I knew how to use them and outgrew the space. In my own home, I would host open houses where more than 1,000 people were able to come in and buy any item they liked on the 1st floor over the course of a weekend. That's how my company Growing Days was born. Growing Days was more than a thriving business but as well my family. There was a perfect balance between starting a new business as well as being a mom. Growing Days just seemed to fit. The year 2013 was the year my daughter Nora was our fourth baby. My business was going well but I wanted a rest. I got away from vintage furniture to spend more quality time with my children. That was precisely what I was looking for. After a while, without a phone, it began to call. People contacted me asking to assist them in the interior design and renovations of their home. Most of these people were those who had walked through my house during open houses for furniture! In the course of my work, I added customers to my client list in a series of. But it wasn't that long before I was managing several clients, and had an extremely successful business of home renovation. If you'd said to me that this company of mine would turn into an idea for a TV show that airs on the DIY Network I probably would have laughed. Indeed, I am laughing slightly when I recall the story.
